A seminar on “Introduction to Better Cotton Initiative”


On 5th January 2017, the Society of Textile Technologist (16-17) under the supervision of Department of Materials and Testing had arranged a seminar on “Introduction to Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)”. The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a not-for-profit organisation stewarding the global standards for Better Cotton, and bringing together cotton’s complex supply chain, from the farmers to the retailers. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future, by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity. The seminar was organized to familiarize students and Faculty members with Better Cotton Initiative. The speaker of the lectures were Mr. Muhammad Shuaib (Coordinator supply chain) and Mr. Syed Ahtisham Uddin Ahmed (Membership officer) from regional office of BCI, Pakistan. They discussed introduction and role of BCI in the world, their upcoming events. They also share BCI goals and objectives to make the cotton sustainable and better for environment and communities. They discussed about their partnership with different brands and organizations like WWF, Adidas, Levi’s, H&M, Puma, Nike, Burberry etc.
