Visual arts society under School of Arts and Design, National Textile University, organized a hands-on Bookbinding Workshop for the students of the BFA 5th semester as part of their Advance Drawing course. The workshop was conducted by Muhammad Yasir Azaam Khan, a skilled practitioner, artist, art educator and also known for his work in traditional and contemporary bookbinding techniques.
As part of their semester project, the 5th semester students created illustrative storybooks for children, integrating visual storytelling, character development, and narrative sequencing. To help students understand the craft of professionally finishing their books, the department invited Yasir Azaam Khan to guide them through the technical and creative aspects of bookbinding.
During the workshop, students were introduced to essential binding processes, including page folding, stitching methods, cover preparation, and assembling the final book structure. Mr. Yasir also shared valuable insights into material selection, durability, and presentation, key components in transforming their illustrated assignments into polished, professional-quality books.
The session provided students with a deeper appreciation for the art of bookmaking and enhanced their understanding of how traditional craftsmanship complements visual arts and illustration. The department continues to promote experiential learning by bringing industry experts to campus, ensuring students gain practical skills that support their academic and creative development.
