He has experience working with known national and international industries dealing with textiles and composite materials. He is working at National Textile University since 2021 at TTS on current position.
He plays a crucial role in a significant Grand Challenge Fund project sponsored by the World Bank and HEC, serving as both the Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) and Work Package Leader for Dissemination and Implementation. This project, titled "Enhancement of Pakistani textile export value-chains' global competitiveness through capacity building and product diversification (KnowTex) (https://gcf.knowtex.pk/ )," boasts a substantial value of 207 million PKR. executed by a consortium of 3 universities, 3 associations and more than 20 textile industries. He was part of several innovative technologies/ industrial solutions which are successfully licensed/transferred to industry for commercialization. These technologies include the development of a novel mechano-chemical process for extraction of banana fibers from agro-waste and their use in high-end textiles, licensed to Interloop Ltd. In addition to this, he is also involved in the development of eco-friendly technologies to extract alternative natural fibers such as Sisal, Pine, etc., and convert them into clothing applications. Dr. Hussain's cumulative involvement in research funding stands at an impressive total of 207 million PKR as Co-PI and 13.45 million PKR as a PI. He has further licensed technologies worth 10 million PKR and a consultancy of 2.57 million PKR at his credit.
He has experience of both teaching as well as executing field trips, laboratory exercises, and other activities beyond traditional lectures. He taught several courses at BS, MS and PhD level. He has been recently assigned duty of Director, National Center for Composite Materials, which signifies his leadership abilities.
He is also a founding member of the Pakistan Circular Textile Platform (https://circulartexpk.com/ ) and a co-founder of Circularity in Alternative Fibers Solutions (pvt) Ltd (Fibsols) (https://fibsols.com/) and Digitex (pvt) Ltd, the parent company of the Pakistan Textile Portal (https://textilpk.com/). His unwavering dedication to the textile industry, academia, and research has been a consistent hallmark throughout his career.
